Current Events Business Research Essay - 1133 Words
Running head: Current Events Business Research Current Events Business Research RES/351 University of Phoenix Current Events Business Research For many years my wife and I have had the opportunity of running and teaching at our martial arts studio here in South Florida, in the past couple of years the competition has come and gone, our longevity has been due to our continuing to change up and add to our training programs. In the recent years our students and friends have asked us to possibly add some sort of boot camp training, due to my military background. Here is where my business research experience was born. The first stage of the business research process is to discover the problem or dilemma, which in my case was how toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Stage two of the process is research proposal, in my situation the proposal was oral, during the first stage my wife and I discussed the cost of conducting research for the program and we discussed the pros and cons of the program, the decision was made that the benefits to the business and the customers outweighed the cost. Our instructors were included in the decision concerning the plan of conducting research, at this point a lot of my instructors volunteered to assist. The initial proposal like mentioned before was oral, in the proposal we explained the primary question of the research, would a boot camp style program fit our current training schedules and thinking, the overall answer was yes it did. The cost of the research was going to be minimal, the reason for this was that we decided to conduct the research ourselves and not hire a firm, some of my instructors have conducted research activities at work and we decided to use some of their expertise, this saved the business some initial cost. Third stage of the process is research design, we decided on using a survey, this survey would ask a simple question, ââ¬Å"would you be interested in participating in a boot camp style training programâ⬠; the survey would also have various health benefits that would be achieved by doing the boot camp. We designed the survey to fit individuals in our area and age groups, our targets were the mid-teens to the middle aged in ourShow MoreRelatedThe Data Analysis For Business Continuity And Disaster Recovery Plan998 Words à |à 4 PagesThe data analysis for business continuity and disaster recovery is divided into three parts. Women in Mythology Free Essays
In myths the classical hero is consistently male, but in underworld myths females tend to have a larger or primary role. Jung emphasized the importance of the women the hero encountered during his adventures: they represent the anima, or the female part of the male psyche. This figure is an opposite-sex archetype essential to the development of a complete and mature personality. We will write a custom essay sample on Women in Mythology or any similar topic only for you Order Now Women in underworld myths are often portrayed as either ââ¬Å"Mother Atonementâ⬠, a goddess or a temptress (189), although these are the main roles of women in underworld myths there are also women who portray a heroic role closer to that of a man. The first myth is the story of Psyche; Psyche loses her husband Cupid and must perform a series of tasks to win him back. The role of Psyche is similar to that of a male role in a traditional heroic archetype because she must complete a series of tasks in order to test her, and show her worthiness to Cupid. It is different because this myth does not contain each part of separation and departure, trials and victories or return. This story includes ââ¬Å"the call to adventureâ⬠, which is when Psyche loses cupid, ââ¬Å"the road of trialsâ⬠where Psyche must complete her many tasks and ââ¬Å"crossing the return thresholdâ⬠where she wins Cupidââ¬â¢s love back. The role of the woman, Psyche, in this myth and in general is significant because she plays not as much of a hero role but has to endure the process that a hero would take, she also plays neither a seductress nor a Mother Atonement role in comparison to other mythological women such as the Lady of Tubber Tintye or the virgin goddess Diana. The second myth is The Prince of the Lonesome Isle. All of the women, minus one, in this particular myth play the roles of temptresses. The first thirteen women the hero comes across are the most beautiful women he has ever laid eyes on, each more beautiful than the previous, each continuously tempting the prince to stay but he leaves them nonetheless. The last woman in the myth, the Lady of Tubber Tintye, plays the role of a creator goddess who nourishes and protects the world(189), he stays with her six days and six nights but still continues and completes his quest (Jeremiah Curtin 101-106). The ways in which the roles of the women differ from the male roles in the traditional heroic archetype are that the women do not present a heroic archetype but rather that of a distraction from the princes original quest he wishes to complete. ââ¬Å"In the morning they came to a house on the roadside; and going in, they saw a woman who had washed herself in a golden basin which stood before her. She was then wetting her head with the water in the basin, and combing her hair with a golden comb. She threw back her hair, and looking at the prince, said: â⬠You are welcome, sisterââ¬â¢s son. What is on you? Is it the misfortune of the world that has brought you here? â⬠ââ¬Å"It is not; I am going to Tubber Tintye for three bottles of water. â⬠ââ¬Å"That is what youââ¬â¢ll never do; no man can cross the fiery river or go through the enchantments around Tubber Tintye. Stay here with me, and Iââ¬â¢ll give you all I have. â⬠ââ¬Å"No, I cannot stay, I must go on. ââ¬Å"â⬠(Jeremiah Curtin) These women are significant to the actual story because they show how the prince resisted the calls of the seductresses, met and united with a goddess who helped him to fulfill his quest. These women in the myth are significant to the portrayal of women in myths in general because they fit the stereotype of women in underworld myths being evil temptresses. But it also breaks the mold seeing as once the prince meets with the creator goddess, ââ¬Å"queen goddess of the worldâ⬠(189) she helps him to fulfill his quest rather than hindering his quest or inhibiting his ability, such as in the myth of Actaeon and the virgin goddess Diana. In the last myth, the myth of Actaeon and the virgin goddess Diana (Artemis), Actaeon stumbles across Diana while he is hunting and happens to see her while she is bathing in a stream. Diana fears that he will brag about seeing her, and turns him into a stag, which then his own hunting dogs are set on him (189). Dianaââ¬â¢s importance to the story shows the power that women have, they are not just pretty faces there is always something more to them. To the general portrayal of women in myths Diana unmasks the Greek maleââ¬â¢s fear of women ââ¬â female beauty is not just there for his enjoyment ââ¬â it has a power to trap and then destroy (Andrew Wilson) Dianaââ¬â¢s roll differs from the traditional male heroic archetype because she is an object of lust turned somewhat evil rather than brave or heroic. She is similar to that of the heroic archetype of a male because she is a ââ¬Å"vengeful destroyerâ⬠(Storybuilder Userââ¬â¢s Manual) towards Actaeon. In conclusion, throughout underworld mythology the role of women can stray from the typical ââ¬Å"temptress or goddessâ⬠and find their way to being a woman called to an adventure. They all have significance to be able to change mythology from a man only perspective, into one where a woman can also be the hero. Although most of the women in these myths are have more differences from the male heroic archetype than similarities, they still have some form of the heroic archetype to them: Psycheââ¬â¢s love for Cupid is tested through tasks, and Diana uses her vengeful destroyer attitude. The women of underworld mythology show that women are not just their beauty or for looking at, they have an underlying root of skill that should allow them their own heroic archetype as well. Outkast - The Love Below free essay sample
The Love Below is Andre 3000s half of Outkasts new album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Although categorized as rap, this album is mostly singing. The disc begins with a nice slow song with piano, strings and timpani similar to something you would hear on The Sims then fades into distorted guitar with a bit of whammy bar action. The drums are next, giving order to the chaotic lead guitar, then melding into a recognizable jazzy form, with slight flashbacks of the whammy-laden guitar. What caught my attention about this song was that it is the second track and went from chaos to an up-tempo jazz piece just like Up From the Skies, the second song on Axis: Bold As Love by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. This may or may not have been done on purpose, but Im certain that Outkast listened to Hendrix, since I recognized some possible Curtis Mayfield-inspired lyrics, and it is a fact that they have worked with the master of Funk himself, George Clinton (the mastermind behind the Parliament/Funka delic). We will write a custom essay sample on Outkast The Love Below or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page They definitely acknowledge and respect their roots. The Love Below has a large mix of styles, something other contemporary bands wish they could accomplish. The first single off of the disc is Hey Ya! and is a perfect mix of acoustic guitar, synth bass and drum machine. On Behold a Lady Andre cries out for the need of classic ladies, a purportedly diminishing species.Love in War is a proposition for love made in the timeless form of Make love, not war and Lets kiss, not fight. This album even features a song sung by Cupid himself (fittingly titled Happy Valentines Day). You might want to listen to Shes Alive through a pair of good headphones; the production on that song is intoxicating. This album definitely has experimental tendencies, from being a partial concept album to avant-garde jazz to an acoustic guitar-oriented song reminiscent of early Beatles (at least the guitar part). And speaking of concept album, this album flows as smoothly as Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon, and that is no easy task.Although The Love Below doesnt have something for everyone, as many music critics falsely claim other albums have, it does have something for most, and in reality thats hard to achieve. We live in a world where punk is mainstream and alternative is in, and with all the overused formulas for making hits Im relieved to see a light in the darkness of this musical muddle. .

LEGALIZE IT essays
LEGALIZE IT essays We should legalize marijuana, because it causes more problems that it is illegal then it ever would if it were legal. I feel that the prohibition of marijuana is a bigger problem then the smoking of it. No one has ever overdosed on weed, more people die in alcohol related accidents then pot related accidents. The forbiddance of weed is the biggest reason for the exploding prison population. Many non-violent drug offenders are serving longer prison sentences, then murders, then rapist and other violent criminals. It cost taxpayers 30,000 dollars a year to imprison 1 non-violent drug offender . Thats why politicians are spending billions of tax dollars on building new prisons and jails to hold everyone, and at the same money for education , healthcare, and other important things are running short. The methods used by the government to stop drug abuse arent working . All they are doing is creating a black market for weed and other drugs. Stopping marijuana use cost billions of dollars to enforce and it makes millions of good hardworking, taxpaying, weed smoking individuals into criminals. Adult use of alcohol and tobacco are legal and accepted ,but adult use of marijuana is illegal. With alcohol you can die or get more impaired then with weed and cigarettes are Many people have the belief that we need to keep weed illegal to keep it away from our teenagers and children. That is a good theory and it makes sense, but it is false it doesnt work. There are at least 10 to 15 places that I know in walking distance, where I know I can get weed , but for me to get a beer it might take a half an hour to an hour standing outside a bar asking people to go in the bar or beer distributor and buy me some beer. In some countries like Holland it is legal to buy pot, but the percent of teenagers who smoke weed there is less then half of the amount of teenagers who ...
